We’re pleased to welcome you to our city and look forward to helping you become acquainted with your new community. Named one of the country's “Top 20 Most Walkable Communities”, Birmingham maintains a small-town feel while offering the recreational and cultural advantages of a prosperous urban area.

As a resident, you’ll enjoy our thriving pedestrian-friendly downtown area, which includes restaurants, movie theaters, art and antique galleries and retailers, and also serves as a center for real estate, accounting, finance, insurance, legal, and other services.

Moving can be a difficult and overwhelming experience, whether is across town or across the country. To make your move easier, here are some useful contacts when setting up your new homeand to help you become familiar with your city:

Birmingham has a number of very active neighborhood associations.

Water
Water service is provided by the City. To set up your account, you may telephone the Treasurer's Office at 248.530.1830

Birmingham purchases water from the Southeastern Oakland County Water Authority (SOCWA), which buys it from the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department.

Garbage and Recycling

Electricity and Gas
DTE provides is the electric utility serving Birmingham homeowners and businesses.  For customer service contact 1.800.888.6886

Natural gas service is provided by Consumers Energy, for more information call 1.800.477.5050

Phone, Television and Internet
Currently, there are two major competing  providers in the Birmingham Area: Comcast and AT&T. AT&T is currently available in limited areas. Both offer cable TV, telephone and Internet services, often bundled into a package. By ordering
all three services from one provider you can save money and consolidate your bills.

AT&T offers telephone and DSL Internet connections and cable services in limited areas. For more information, call Customer Service at  1.800.288.2020

Comcast offers cable services, digital phone and Internet access. For more information, call Customer Service at  1.888.COM.CAST (266.2278)

DirecTV offers satellite services. For more information, visit their website or call Customer Service at 1.888.777.2454. If you are an existing customer call 1.800.347.3208

Dish Network offers satellite service. 1.888.825.2507

Vonage offers telephone services through an internet connection. For more information, call 1.800.705.7092

Birmingham also has a municipal cable access television station, Channel 15.
