Coming Soon - the New Shain Park!
Over the coming months, Shain Park (located on Merrill Street in downtown Birmingham) will undergo extensive renovations. The ground breaking ceremony for the new park was held on July 15, 2009.
The new park will have many prominent features, such as a large decorative water fountain in the center of the existing park, a new children’s play area off Martin Street, granite paved Merrill Street with the Marshall Fredericks statue in the center of the park, a performance stage area with open lawn space for large audiences, and a reconstructed parking lot. Work on the park for 2009 will be finished by the end of November, however, grass and trees for the park won't be planted until spring, 2010. A separate project is scheduled for 2010 to replace the streets around the park and add more street parking. The entire project is slated for completion in October, 2010.
